Is Your METRC Data Healthy?
A 5-Minute Weekly Checklist

A quick, actionable 5-minute checklist for cannabis operators to check their METRC data health weekly. Covers pending transfers, plant age, tag inventory, and more to ensure compliance.

Your METRC data is the official record of your business. Keeping it clean and accurate is not just good practice—it’s essential for staying compliant. But you’re busy, and a deep dive into your account can take hours you don’t have.

So, here’s a simple 5-minute checklist you can run through once a week to catch the most common issues before they become serious problems.

The 5-Minute METRC Health Check:

[  ] 1. Check for Pending Transfers (1 Minute)

  • What to do: Go to the “Transfers” tab. Look at both the “Incoming” and “Outgoing” lists.

  • What to look for: Are there any incoming transfers you need to accept or reject? Are there any outgoing transfers that have been sitting unaccepted for more than a few days? Are there any outgoing transfers with rejections that you need to receive back into your license? These need follow-up.

[  ] 2. Look for Your Oldest Plants (1 Minute)

  • What to do: Go to the “Plants” tab and view your “Flowering” plants. Sort by “Planting Date” to see the oldest ones first.

  • What to look for: Do you have plants that have been in the flowering stage for an unusually long time (e.g., over 80-90 days)? They might be overdue for harvest or need to be recorded as destroyed. Are there immature batches with plants left in the system that need to be recorded as destroyed?

[  ] 3. Verify Your Tag Inventory (30 Seconds)

  • What to do: Go to the “Tags” section under the Admin menu.

  • What to look for: Look at your “Available” tag count. Are you running low on either plant or package tags? Running out can shut down your operations while you wait for a new order.

[  ] 4. Scan for Empty Packages (1 Minute)

  • What to do: Go to the “Packages” tab and view your “Active” packages. Sort by the “Quantity” column.

  • What to look for: Do you have active packages with a quantity of zero? These “ghost” packages clutter your inventory and should be finished.

[  ] 5. Review Recent Waste Logs (1.5 Minutes)

  • What to do: Briefly scan your recent “Waste” entries.

  • What to look for: Does the information look accurate? Are the units of measure (grams, pounds) what you expect them to be? Inconsistent waste reporting is a common red flag.
